Two days and counting
So, the time is coming once again.Last year was unsuccessful, but this year, I have a renewed vigor to accomplish my goal. It will take some dedication, hard work and even patience, but I have all three of the elements.
I'm talking about spring turkey season.
Today was a good day because I saw three gigantic toms which was like pouring gas on a small fire. Wednesday can't get here soon enough. I'll be up at the asscrack of dawn to go hunt turkeys.
But there is a problem.
And it's one of my worst nightmares.
The place I am going first had several big toms on it last year. There is also a flock that hangs out around the area. I thought my chances were good for bagging a gobbler. However, that was until Saturday. I pulled up to the northeast entrance to this 1/4 section to see what was on the other side of the hedge row so I knew what to expect.
There in the entrance to the other adjacent 1/4 was this little yellow sign proclaiming prosecution for tresspassers, not a highly uncommon detail on signs. There was other writing on the sign though.
That's when I read it, and let loose with a word that rhymed with duck.
On the sign, were the words "LEASED BY some bullcrap Kansas Outdoorsman shooting thingy". All that translates into is Sedgwick County (Wichita) mofo's with guns and no ethics whatsoever. Why did the landowner have to lease it? Why did he do that? Why did he unknowlingly screw us?
I hate Sedgwick County hunters. Sure, there are some exceptions to the rule, but for the most part 97% these guys are unethical urban dickweeds that have no respect for others or even the property they hunt. They are infact the ones that have sent me diving for cover on more than one occasion to avoid being shot. I've screamed at them at the top of my lungs because they just hopped into fields we were already in.
Now I'm turkey hunting. Turkey hunting is different because we wear full camo, which adds an element of danger to the hunt. These guys are the type of guys to shoot first without knowing what exactly the target is. In fact, I think it was Sedgwick Co. boys that were hunting the same area, when they called each other in and the one shot the other because he was just guessing that there was a turkey in the bush.
And they will be hunting right across the hedge row from me. Great, just freaking great.
