Why not new balls?
So I filled in for my boys in Wichita last night. It wasn't bad as we were missing the upper echelon of our talent pool, i.e. most of the best regulars. So Timmy made his career debut at third while I pitched. We got beat 10-5. I blame two things, our lack of hitting and very, very shitty balls. They were squishy and it sounded like hitting a canteloupe. Just a dull thwack when the bat made contact with the ball. For example, I went one for four (yes, i know, really piss poor) but two of them were flyouts that backed the left fielder up. Had we been using normal hard balls, they would have been piss rockets to the fence. Softballs shouldn't be squishy.
