And the day is nearly upon us.
That's right kids, we've hit the under 24 hour barrier. It's 8 ish here and I'm thinking that this day is going to drag by. Fortunately, I've got a jillion things to do to get ready, I think. I've got explicit instructions to not get shot, so I will do my best to follow those instructions that were laid down upon me.My gun is ready to do. My vest has been fixed so now it can be zipped up and I no longer have to fasten it with duct tape. I just have to go grab it from my grandparents' house. I can't believe I am actually entertaining the idea of doing homework today so I don't have to try to do it on Sunday evening when I should be dragging ass tired.
The reality will fully strike my in several stages. The first has set in as that we're under 24 hours until legal shooting time (which is half and hour before sunrise to sunset.) The second stage of reality will slap me when I see that first truck with a dog trailer rolling up from the south. I'm sure the third will hit me when/if I wake up at 4 a.m. I have this sinking feeling that I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight.
My only dilemmas reside in the fact if I actually wear my hunting jeans. They are incredibly wonderful, however they were not designed for a warm day. They are an actual pair of jeans, with added features. On the outside from the thigh down on the front, and the knee down all the way around the leg, there is canvas or sometime of material that helps protect the legs. I like that fact as I have walked into little hedge trees that have razor sharp thorns which has caused me to yelp in pain on numerous occasions. On the inside of the jeans, they have been lined with flannel to help keep one warm. Supposedly it's supposed to be upwards of 70 degrees tomorrow which means I may be too warm.
The second dilemma consists of how many shells to load up in my vest. I'm thinking two boxes for sure. I just don't want to run out. I'm just hoping the new zipper holds out as the old zipper died a tragic death. It was a great vest, but they must have tried to skimp by putting a cheap ass zipper on there. On our second club hunt last year, I had six birds in my vest and the weight caused the zipper to pull apart.
I do have a goal. My goal is to break my own personal record for birds shot in one day. Last year I broke the record of seven by killing eight on our second hunt. Do I hear nine? Technically the limit is four, so I broke the law, again.
Danny said that they are going to start catching birds at 5:15. He also said that people will be filleting the hens out so we have fresh birds to eat after we finish the hunt. Don is picking my pops and I up at 5. I'm thinking I need to make a thermos of coffee to have so I'm ready to go, as if I won't be wired enough, but hey, coffee is the lifeblood in the early a.m.
Wow, I've really rambled. Maybe I should shower and go to spanish. Not even OSL will bring me down.
